All our surgeons recently attended the WA Australasian Society of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgeons Annual Scientific Meeting, Bunker Bay. Dr. Jafri Kuthubutheen presented his work with Princess Margaret Hospital on the role of the Bonebridge hearing implant in young children. Dr. Chady Sader presented a review of the head and neck reconstructive surgical cases and outcomes. Dr. Anton Hinton-Bayre gave the annual Phil Nash Oration as well as an overview of the history of eponymous conditions in ENT surgery over the years.

his year also saw for the first time, 2 invited guest speakers from Singapore, Dr. Heng Wai Yuen and Dr. Barrie Tan.

Dr. Yuen, a senior ENT consultant and otologist at Changi General, presented his work on the utility of MRI scanning in the diagnosis of Meniere’s disease and compared the use of cochlear implantation and the Bonebridge in the treatment of single sided deafness.

Dr. Tan, the Head of Department of ENT at Singapore General Hospital, presented his recent experience in endoscopic ear surgery and the role of cochlear implantation in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
